Tiwa Savage, born Tiwatope Savage on February 5, 1980, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress renowned for her contributions to the Afrobeats genre. She sings in both English and Yoruba, and her music is a fusion of Afrobeats, R&B, afropop, pop, and hip-hop. Savage’s career began in London, where she provided backup vocals for artists like George Michael and Mary J. Blige. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, she signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 2009.

Savage’s return to Nigeria marked a significant turn in her career as she signed with Mavin Records in 2012. Her debut studio album, “Once Upon a Time,” released in 2013, was followed by her second album “R.E.D” in 2015. She has received numerous accolades, including the Best African Act at the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards, becoming the first woman to win the category. In 2019, she secured a record deal with Universal Music Group.
