Prosecutors, as reported by NBC News, claimed the NFL franchise owner solicited a prostitute after paying the spa for sex acts on two occasions.
The spa was investigated as part of a human trafficking case along with other spas, and Kraft was among the 25 people detained by authorities. According to Dave Aronberg, the Palm Beach County State Attorney, none of the 25 people were charged with human trafficking, but they faced charges of committing prostitution and first-degree misdemeanor solicitation.
The then-77-year-old pleaded not guilty, according to court filings from the state Circuit Court in Palm Beach County, Florida, reported by the aforementioned source. Investigators stated that Kraft allegedly visited the spa twice in January, before the Patriots clinched the AFC Championship, and was captured on surveillance video with a spa employee on both occasions.
Investigators also said the video showed him paying cash to an Asian woman before being taken to a room where sexual activities reportedly occurred. Kraft, whose wife passed away from cancer in 2011, later issued a statement apologizing for "disappointing my family, my close friends, my co-workers, our fans, and many others who rightfully hold me to a higher standard.”
